Ceramic coating and carnauba wax are two different methods used to shine and protect your car's exterior paint surface. Carnauba is the world's hardest natural wax, and adds a layer of protection on top of your car's paint. Ceramic coatings, however, form a chemical bond with the surface of your car's paint. For this reason, ceramic coatings are more durable and offer better protection, but some classic car owners prefer not to bond anything with their car's original paint. For them, a carnauba wax is beneficial as it still adds shine and protection without altering the underlying paint.

However, it is generally accepted that both traditional waxes and ceramic coatings will offer added protection if applied in addition to a PPF. The slick surface of a PPF may make it difficult for the waxes or coatings you apply to adhere properly, and may, as a result, decrease their durability. That said, many still opt to apply additional products over their PPF in order to extend the life of the film and enhance the car's shine.
